Starting out in Alpha

Welcome to Minecraft Alpha. Whether you’re new and just passing through or an old-timer and always here to stay, I welcome you to the start of a special let’s play. A let’s play in which we’ll not only revisit this golden age of Minecraft, of what Minecraft used to be, but we’ll live in it as if there had never been anything else. Because frankly, that’s the way I see and play this game. Now, what I love about this version of the game is this is the core gameplay loop of Minecraft, right? You don’t have the bed. So, me collecting this wool is just for later building purposes because we’ve got a lot of sheep here.

But I don’t necessarily need to because I need to craft a bed or anything. Let’s collect some leather. Sorry, my friend. I’m vegetarian, but not today. And the sun is rising quite quickly. So I think we should get going. Get some wood going. Grab that coal. There are caves down here. So it would probably be good to sleep somewhere close. So, I’ll not sleep, but spend the night somewhere close by here so that over the course of the night, we can make some holes. Dig a little bit and see what’s below us. All right. I like to collect, let’s say, like 20 pieces of wood.

Actually, scratch that. Let’s do this way faster. So, we’ve got a crafting bench going. Make some sticks. Um, let’s pop that here. Make a wooden pickaxe. First item of the game. And now let’s make a stone pickaxe. Get some faster mining going. And now we can make a little set of tools. The axe first and foremost. And a shovel. Might as well. Right. Oh, yeah. The axe doesn’t speed that up. All right. Awesome. Now we’ll be way quicker.

Survival preparations

So, what I’ve noticed about many Minecraft alpha let’s plays, as cool as they are, they treat this as a as an exercise, like, oh, very quaint, very special to play Minecraft Alpha. My goal here is to not be that quaint. Not that special. Minecraft Alpha is just the game that we’re playing, but we’re going to be talking about anything else someone might be talking about during a Minecraft let’s play. The fact that it’s alpha doesn’t mean we’re just talking about alpha all the time. What’s the point in that? Damn, I really miss these agglomerations of um of cows and sheep like he used to have.

I’m a really big fan of um Better Than Adventure for Minecraft beta 1.7, the mod that kind of really expands everything, but in the vein of beta, not alpha. And I’ve got a world there where it’s taking me forever to find sheep. Doesn’t help that like my projects are always very woolheavy. Well, that was our wood adventure 51. Oh my goodness. Way more than I had expected. H. Let’s get that coal up there. You know what? Let’s scratch that. I think we should just find a little hideyhole for the night. So, the interesting thing is the sun was rising over there, right?

So, in these old versions, there is a little bug, namely that in the southwest, there’s up to on average 65% higher diamond generation. So, the southwest would be over here. Now, we don’t know where our spawn coordinates are because the F3 menu doesn’t give you any coordinates. So, we don’t really know where 0 0 is. So, it would make sense to just walk over a little bit and find some uh hidey-hole over there. I don’t want to get us going in some place where there’s not going to be much ore for us. Oh, love this. Love this landscape.

There would be a cave down there. Nonetheless, I would like to explore a little further up here cuz this does seem like Oh, this does seem interesting. We I think are really high in general right now. If the clouds are just up there, well, let’s do it like that. There seems to be a like a cave system down here below us. So, I might as well take this coal up here and check out that cave system. We should probably craft some more wooden tools. Like a wooden sword. Wooden tools. Stone tools. A stone sword, of course. First, let’s get this coal.

Not much time for lolly gag in here. This will last us quite some time. All right, let’s get this going quickly, quickly, quickly. I do really still want Oh, let’s make a Ah, what? I don’t have enough. Let’s get some more stone. I do really want to make, what am I saying? I do really want to get a furnace going to make some pork chops. But where are the pigs, my friends? Where are you? Let’s shear you. Thank Oh, you had fallen over already. I’m sorry. Well, hopefully you guys aren’t as injured. Is there anything down here?

Co iron. Iron. Don’t mind if I do. Let’s quickly get some torches. Just to make sure that there’s nothing interesting here because otherwise Yeah. Okay. Let’s leave this be. I do hear the zombie. So, I’m sure there’s something else around here. But, uh, we should be going. But I don’t want to let let this hang. Come on. Come on. Otherwise, we’ll just spend the night down here, right? No, no, I don’t want to. I’ll let this coal here. There is enough coal in the world, my friends. And it’s getting dark. Oh my god. All right. Um, quick decision- making there.

Establishing a base

That will be the base for the night. Oh, no. Pig. You I need you. I need my friend. I will not let you go. Thanks a lot. Okay, this is not good. Not not a very good. I do want to see over the hill. I’m not a really big fan of valleys just because of the transportation implications. Can’t really get around very easily. But on this side now that might be a little more interesting. So, let’s be a little safe from creepers here. Make a little more space without spiders being able to enter. And of course, gravel. That’s going to be a lot of fun. But for now, we’re safe. Hey there, skeleton. I’ll make a door so he can’t shoot through. Um, let’s get some wood. Our first door. Yay. Oh, quick, quick, quick. Okay. Didn’t collect any sand. Could have done that for some class. Hello, my friends. Nobody out there. Let’s get a chest going. I don’t like this uh little disorganization going on. Okay, where to place this chest.

Probably hugging this wall a little bit. That sounds like a good idea. Okay, now let us speed through mining. Oh no, that went wrong. All right, let us speed. Oh no, that went wrong. Let us speed through mining. A nice little furnace. Yes, please. Let’s get the pork chops going. Shall we? We shall. I don’t want to use coal for this. Might as well just use the wood. We’ve got that going. All right. One wood, one choppy chop. So, we are still carnivorous, but we should get a alternative source of food going relatively soon.

Don’t get ahead of ourselves. With time, the Neolithic Revolution will also arrive on our doorsteps. All right. Now, for this, we might as well use coal, even if I waste a little bit. He’s all right. He’s all right. First step for the iron will be an iron sword. And then I’d really like to get some iron armor going. Iron pick. Don’t really need that for now. I’ll grab my stuff. The sun still gives us some light. I’ll leave the torches here, but I will grab these things. These important things. Very important things. Oh, yes, of course. And then, oh, the furnaces. Come on, my friend. All right. And then we can just get going just in case we won’t stay. I don’t want to be wasting these first awesome items we’ve had.

Let’s not forget that. southwest, which would place us very gently alongside that river delta, which would be nice. Let’s see if it’s possible to find something nice over there. Now, the mountains give us great observation post possibilities, so we can see a lot of stuff going on, but they also do make our descent to the um to the plains more difficult. Um, let’s grab your meat, your muscles, and fat.

It’ll be illegal at that point. I think this is a cool place. I think we can call this our home.

Settling in for the night

So Oh, mushrooms. Yes, I say. Good God. Collect some sand. Make some glass. All right. Well, that was that. It tells us when to stop. All right. Well, let’s do that. Let’s Let’s stay close to where we had originally planted our flag. It does seem like a good location. Let’s get you. Yes. Yes. Mad with power. Mhm. And you too. I have not forgotten you. Um 11. Let’s build our little hidey-hole down there. And now we’ve got both locations of the world open to us. And you No. Um, I will let you live. I don’t have space anymore. All right. We have the choice every day when we wake up. Do we go left? Do we go right? We shall not go straight. Torches planted. Can make a little door for now. For now, this will be our little home. But then we can like um fill this up with glass or something and lava. But we’ll see about that. All right. Where is it? The door. Oh, I didn’t bring it with me.
