Synopsis
A sandbox game set in a procedurally generated world made of blocks. You gather resources, craft tools and shelters, and fight or avoid monsters at night in survival mode, or build freely in creative mode. The Java version runs on desktop computers and is known for its large modding community.
What people say
Reviewers praise the open-ended freedom, the satisfaction of discovering how its systems fit together, and building alongside friends. Java Edition's modding depth gets particular credit in later retrospectives. The most common criticism is the lack of guidance: players often need an outside wiki to find mechanics such as brewing, and survival can be punishing for newcomers. The base game is also seen as thin without mods.
