Synopsis
Set in sixteenth-century Japan, this strategy game has you lead one of several warring clans toward ruling the whole country. You manage provinces, armies, and diplomacy on a turn-based campaign map, and you fight the resulting battles in real time on the field. Victory depends on both careful planning and quick tactical decisions.
What people say
Critics widely treated it as a return to form for the series, praising the polished presentation of feudal Japan, the clean blend of campaign and battle, and a design that welcomes newcomers. Battles that reward planning over brute numbers drew particular praise. Criticism focused on defensive enemy AI, slow and repetitive naval combat, and a multiplayer mode that suffered from unstable connections at launch. Steam players rate it very positively overall.
