How to get Call of Duty: United Offensive running today
- If the menus show UNDISCLOSED MENU text, install the base game, Call of Duty, as well (PCGamingWiki).
- For widescreen resolutions without stretched menus and HUD, and for raw mouse input that stops the cursor drifting, install CoDUO-YAP and set m_rawinput to 1 (PCGamingWiki).
- Without the plugin, set r_mode -1 with r_customwidth, r_customheight and cg_fov as Steam launch options, as PCGamingWiki describes.
Synopsis
An expansion for the first Call of Duty that adds new World War II campaigns for American, British and Soviet soldiers, including the Battle of the Bulge. Players fight through linear missions alongside squads of allies, now with sprinting, deployable machine guns, and tanks and other vehicles to drive. It also adds new multiplayer maps and modes.

Reception
Critics rated it highly, with a PC Metascore of 87, praising its large battles and the new vehicles. Steam players also rate it Very Positive and remember its multiplayer fondly, and small community servers still run nightly matches. Recent players point to brutal difficulty spikes, little cover and no health packs in some later missions. Many negative reviews complain only about the price of such an old game.

Design today
3.5/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardThere is no controller support, and on Windows 10 and later the mouse can drift or stutter on its own unless raw input is added with a fan plugin. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThe game does not adjust to widescreen, so a custom resolution stretches the HUD and menus unless a fan plugin is used. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressThe campaign autosaves at checkpoints and also allows quick saves at any moment, which players lean on for long stretches with no checkpoint, such as the opening jeep ride and the final train station battle. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
- It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressMissions are linear and scripted, with each map leading along a set path to a stated objective, such as destroying the tanks at the train station, so the way forward stays clear. Source: ign.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingThirteen linear missions take about ten hours with no grind or backtracking, though each campaign ends in a finale that many players find frustratingly hard. Source: ign.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerIt is a first-person shooter with direct mouse aiming, and the field of view can be raised past its 80 degree default through a console setting. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
