Synopsis
A reboot of id Software's shooter in which a lone marine wakes up on a Mars research base overrun by demons. You race through corridors and locked combat arenas, tearing through enemies with heavy weapons and close-range glory kills that refill health and ammo, with a snap-together map editor and online multiplayer on the side.
What people say
Critics praised its fast, aggressive combat, weapon upgrades and heavy metal score, and many called it a sharp return to form for the series. Reviewers found the story thin and the multiplayer less memorable than the campaign. Players today still rank the combat among the best in the genre, though a common complaint is that the corridor-then-arena loop grows repetitive over a full playthrough, and some prefer the more fluid movement of DOOM Eternal.
