Synopsis
Day of Defeat is a team-based, online-only World War II shooter built on the Half-Life engine. Allied and Axis teams pick classes such as rifleman, machine gunner or sniper and fight to capture flags or complete objectives on maps set in Europe.
Reception
Critics at release gave it generally favorable marks, praising tense, teamwork-driven matches with a war movie feel and quick capture-point action. Reviewers also called the package thin, with few maps, repetitive play and visuals that already looked dated. Players today still find community servers and an organized competitive scene, though they note that the population is mostly returning veterans and that some servers have poor hit registration or strict admins.
