Synopsis
Demigod is an early multiplayer online battle arena game from Gas Powered Games, built on the ideas of the Warcraft III mod Defense of the Ancients. You pick one of eight demigods, either a lone assassin or a general who leads summoned troops, and push lanes of computer-controlled soldiers toward the enemy citadel while leveling skills and buying items. Matches run against AI or other players, with a short tournament mode for solo play.
Reception
Critics liked the art, the characters and the depth of the skill builds, with PC Gamer at 81 and IGN at 7.5, but launch reviews were dominated by netcode that often failed to connect players. Eurogamer also faulted the missing tutorial, unbalanced items and only eight maps. The PC version holds a Metascore of 76 from 50 critics. On Steam it is Mostly Positive; players still enjoy matches against bots and friends, but say the online community has long been gone.

Design today
3/5- Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardThe right mouse button issues orders to a single hero and keys can be remapped; there is no controller support. Source: ign.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensBuying items and upgrades means visiting separate buildings, which Eurogamer called clunky, and the item and upgrade systems give little explanation; WSGF rates its 4K and ultrawide support as incomplete. Source: eurogamer.net, ign.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressEach match is a standalone skirmish against AI or other players, so a defeat costs only that match. Source: ign.com, pcgamer.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideThere is no tutorial or hint system, and IGN found that some systems stay unclear unless the manual is read. PC Gamer called it poorly explained. Source: eurogamer.net, pcgamer.com, ign.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingItem and upgrade shops sit in separate buildings at the base, so buying means a slow detour from the fight, and the towers push most matches into the same pattern of slow combat and leveling. Only eight maps are included. Source: eurogamer.net, eurogamer.net.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerThe camera zooms from a view of the whole map down to close range, and most play happens zoomed out. Pathfinding can be spotty, but that is a unit problem rather than a camera one. Source: ign.com, eurogamer.net, honestgamers.com.
