How to get FEZ running today
- If the game will not start, set the Windows region format to English (United States) under Settings, Time and language, Language and region, as noted on PCGamingWiki.
- Make sure a working audio output device is connected, since the game refuses to launch without one.
- If you see screen tearing with VSync on, set vertical sync in the Nvidia or AMD control panel to follow the application setting.
Synopsis
A puzzle platformer about Gomez, a small creature in a flat, pixel-art world who discovers that it is secretly three-dimensional. By rotating the view between four sides, you line up distant ledges into new paths, collect cube fragments and uncover the many secrets hidden across its villages, ruins and towers.
What people say
Critics praised it at release as a beautiful and inventive puzzle platformer with a charming world and an unusual depth of secrets. Even then, some reviewers flagged technical problems, a baffling map and puzzles obscure enough to shut out casual players. Players today still admire its rotation idea, art and music, but frequently complain about long backtracking without fast travel, a hard-to-read map, cryptic late puzzles that push many toward guides, and occasional crashes in long sessions.
Playability today
Playability runs from 1 to 5. It is the average of two parts. Each part starts at 1 and climbs to 5 as more of its checks pass. Read the method.

Design today: 2.5 / 5
- ✗Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardController support is solid, but Steam players often describe the jumping and ledge grabs as floaty and imprecise. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✗Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screensThe pixel art and menus read clearly, but the three-dimensional map is a common complaint and many players get lost using it. Source: vaporlens.app, opencritic.com.
- ✓Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressThe game saves automatically and falls cost almost nothing, so lost progress mostly comes from crashes; players rarely discuss saving, so evidence is thin. Source: vaporlens.app, pcgamingwiki.com.
- ✗It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressThe rotation idea is taught well, but its later code and cipher puzzles are so cryptic that players widely say a guide is needed to finish them. Source: vaporlens.app, opencritic.com.
- ✗Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingLong backtracking at a slow walking pace, with no real fast travel, is one of the most repeated criticisms. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓Camera and movement never fight the playerRotating the view is the heart of the game and works as intended; reports of the camera locking up describe a bug rather than a design flaw. Source: vaporlens.app.
