Synopsis
Lords of the Realm III is a real-time medieval strategy game from Impressions Games set in Ireland, England, France and Germany. You rule a realm by placing knights, clergy, burghers and serfs on parcels of land, then lead the resulting armies into battles and castle sieges. Four campaigns, a set of historical battles and a castle editor make up the package.

Reception
Critics at release found it approachable but thin, with IGN giving it 6.4 and comparing it unfavorably to Medieval: Total War while praising its storybook art. Reviewers objected to a tutorial that skips key concepts, battles that turn into shapeless brawls and an enemy that keeps sending small raiding parties. Steam players today rate it poorly, mostly because it strips out the economy that made Lords of the Realm II popular. A few players still enjoy it out of nostalgia.

Design today
2.5/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardPlayers describe the controls as buggy, and once troops engage, formations tangle into one mass that ignores further maneuvering. There is no controller support or key remapping. Source: ign.com, steamcommunity.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThe game has no widescreen, ultrawide or 4K support and no windowed mode, and diplomacy offers arrive with no clear alert. It shows only at old 4:3 resolutions on today's screens. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, ign.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressCampaign progress is kept in save files written from inside the game for each noble profile, and players save whenever they need to, for example before switching out of the game. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideThe tutorial covers the interface but never explains how armies are raised, how siege engines are built or how estates are captured. Players report needing the manual to learn even camera rotation. Source: ign.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingDefeated enemy lords respawn at once and send a stream of small raiding parties, turning larger maps into an endless chase. There is also no time speed control for quiet stretches. Source: ign.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerThe battle view scrolls with the arrow keys or screen edges and zooms with the mouse wheel; rotating it needs a held key that only the manual explains, which one long Steam review found frustrating during sieges. Source: steamcommunity.com, pcgames.de.
