Synopsis

Majesty is a fantasy strategy game in which the player rules a kingdom but cannot command its heroes directly. Instead you build guilds, temples and defenses, recruit warriors, rangers, wizards and other heroes, and steer them by posting gold bounties on monsters, lairs and unexplored land across a series of quests and random freestyle maps.

Reception

Critics at release praised the fresh indirect control design, the humor and the way heroes grow like RPG characters, while some found the hands-off play frustrating. Players today still rate it Very Positive on Steam, calling it one of a kind and wishing for a true successor. Common criticism covers the dated interface, heroes who ignore bounties, punishing early waves of enemies in some quests, and a thin tutorial. Some recent players also report random freezes on modern Windows.

  • Sold or given away today by an official source

  • ?Not confirmed yetSingle-player works without an internet connection
No source covers the current version yet, so this check counts as open, not passed. Played it lately? Tell us
  • All of its content still works (servers, DLC, unlocks)
The old MSN Gaming Zone matchmaking is gone, but online play continues through Steamworks and LAN through DirectPlay, and all quests remain (PCGamingWiki).
  • Supports modern resolutions and widescreen
Widescreen resolutions are supported, though the interface does not scale at 4K or ultrawide (PCGamingWiki).
  • No full controller support and no remappable controls
The game has no controller support (PCGamingWiki).
  • Not Steam Deck Verified or Playable
  • No intrusive DRM or required third-party launcher account
  • No pay-to-win or pushy microtransactions
  • No known game-breaking bugs in the current version
PCGamingWiki lists a fix for an unresponsive menu and no unresolved issues, though some recent players report random freezes (PCGamingWiki, Steam Community).

Design today

3.5/5
  • Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboard
Everything is done with the mouse by placing buildings, bounties and spells, which suits the indirect control style, though keys cannot be remapped and there is no controller support. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, aywren.com.
  • Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screens
Widescreen resolutions are supported, but interface elements are not scaled at 4K or ultrawide resolutions, and players describe the interface as clearly from 2000. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, aywren.com.
  • Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progress
A single player quest can be saved at any point, and players save often to guard against freezes, but saved multiplayer games crash when they are reloaded from the lobby, according to two threads. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
  • Hard to make progress without a guide
There is no full tutorial; beginner quests introduce bounties and building upgrades, but parts of the indirect control system are only explained in the manual. Source: aywren.com, genesistemple.com.
  • Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtracking
Quests are self-contained maps with set goals, and the economy runs largely on its own, so there is little grind beyond surviving a hectic opening few minutes. Source: genesistemple.com, steamcommunity.com.
  • Camera and movement never fight the player
The fixed bird's-eye isometric view scrolls across the map with no camera to manage, though the HD version does not lock the cursor to the window on multi-monitor setups. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
