Synopsis
A first-person horror game in which journalist Miles Upshur breaks into Mount Massive Asylum, a remote psychiatric hospital, after a tip about secret experiments. He cannot fight back, so he must sneak, run and hide from the inmates, seeing in the dark only through his camcorder's night vision while hunting for batteries.
What people say
Critics praised the oppressive atmosphere, the tense chases and the camcorder that turns darkness into a resource to manage. Many also found the loop of hiding and fetching objectives predictable, saying repetition wears down the fear and the pace sags at times. Players still recommend it as a short, frightening experience, and its graphics are often said to hold up for their age.

Design today
4.5 / 5✓Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboard
Movement, peeking and hiding map cleanly to a controller with full support and remapping, and mouse and keyboard keys can be rebound too. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
✓Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screens
The only interface is the camcorder overlay and a battery counter, and both stay readable at 4K, which the game supports. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
✓Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progress
The game autosaves at frequent checkpoints, so a death sends the player back only a short way. Source: steamcommunity.com, opencritic.com.
✓It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progress
Objectives are simple and Miles's notes state them, and the game never asks players to work out hidden mechanics. Source: opencritic.com.
✗Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtracking
Critics widely note that the repeated pattern of hiding and fetching objects grows predictable and that the pace drops in places. Source: opencritic.com.
✓Camera and movement never fight the player
The first-person view, with a visible body and lean, moves fluidly, and no camera complaints stand out. Source: opencritic.com, steamcommunity.com.
