How to get RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum running today
- If large parks crash or load very slowly, apply the ntcore 4 GB patch to RCT3plus.exe and use the 32-bit version of DXVK, as described on PCGamingWiki.
- Turn off bloom in the graphics options, since it costs a lot of performance on any system (PCGamingWiki).
- For resolutions above those in the menu, edit the resolution in the game's config file (PCGamingWiki).
Synopsis
RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 is a theme park management game in full 3D, where you lay out paths, build rides and shops, and keep guests happy and spending. You can design your own roller coasters piece by piece and ride them in first person, and the Platinum edition adds the Soaked! water parks and Wild! animal exhibits to the base game's scenarios and sandbox.

Reception
Critics in 2004 praised the move to 3D, the deep coaster editor, the customization tools and the first-person Coaster Cam, while noting bugs at launch; it holds a PC Metascore of 81. Players on Steam still recommend it as a creative sandbox with more content than many newer park builders. Recent reviews of the 2020 re-release call construction fiddly and the visuals dated. Platinum itself is no longer sold on Steam.

Design today
4.5/5- Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardMouse and keyboard handle everything, with WASD or edge scrolling, mouse rotation and zoom, and modifier keys for raising objects and shaping terrain while placing them. Source: strategywiki.org, useapotion.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensMany HUD and menu buttons are small and hard to hit at 1440p, and there are no shortcut keys to open menus or toggle views of rides, scenery or guests. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, strategywiki.org.

- Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingScenarios set clear goals that shape each park, and the sandbox has no grind or forced filler. Source: useapotion.com, metacritic.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerThe free 3D camera moves, rotates, tilts and zooms with both mouse and keys, and several camera modes with alternate layouts can be chosen in the settings. Source: strategywiki.org.
