How to get Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Ultimate Sith Edition running today
- Install the missing sounds fix into the LevelPacks folder to restore audio in the Raxus Prime and Death Star levels (PCGamingWiki).
- To use a controller, set Input Device to Xbox 360 Controller in the launcher before starting the game (PCGamingWiki).
- Set Windows speakers to Stereo before playing; the game's surround mode plays music from only one speaker (PCGamingWiki).
- Optionally, use the SWTFU Advanced Configurator to lift the 30 FPS cap and turn on cloth simulation (PCGamingWiki).
Synopsis
A third-person action game set between the Star Wars prequel and original trilogies, in which Darth Vader's secret apprentice Starkiller hunts the last Jedi across the galaxy. Combat mixes lightsaber combos with physics-driven Force powers that throw enemies, crush machinery and tear apart scenery, and the Ultimate Sith Edition adds three bonus missions.
Reception
The console original was praised for its story and spectacular Force powers, but the 2009 PC port drew a Metascore of 65, with critics calling it a careless conversion with balance and control problems. Players today still enjoy the power fantasy and the story. Current Steam reviews complain about sluggish keyboard controls, the 30 FPS cap, boss fights built on stunlocks and a frustrating Star Destroyer sequence, and missing sound in late levels.

Design today
1.5/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardKeyboard and mouse controls feel sluggish, Force grip aiming is imprecise, and remapping keys breaks the quick-time events, which still expect the default keys. Source: honestgamers.com, steamcommunity.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensMenus cannot be used with the mouse at all: options require the keyboard, with the bracket keys switching between tabs, and remapped keys do not change the on-screen prompts. Source: honestgamers.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressThe game autosaves at checkpoints within each level, and reloading the last checkpoint is the standard way back after a death or a failed sequence. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideThe Star Destroyer sequence and boss finishers rely on vague action prompts, and players regularly report not knowing how to bring the ship down. Source: steamcommunity.com, honestgamers.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingBoss fights drag on through blocking, stunlocks and respawning minions, the Star Destroyer sequence keeps resetting, and the bonus levels repeat the same combat. Source: steamcommunity.com, honestgamers.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera or movement fights the playerPC Games lists a stubborn camera among the PC version's faults, and the camera and control changes in boss fights draw complaints. Source: pcgames.de.
