Synopsis
A team-based online shooter in which two teams pick from nine cartoonish classes, each with a distinct role, and fight over control points, payload carts and flags. Matches are short and run on Valve's casual matchmaking or on thousands of community servers, and the game has been free to play since 2011.
Reception
Critics at release praised the sharp class design, readable art style and humor, and it holds a 92 Metascore on PC. Players still call it one of the best class shooters ever made and keep coming back after long breaks. The common complaints today are about neglect: waves of cheating bots have flooded casual matchmaking for years, Valve's responses have been slow, and many players advise sticking to community servers. The cosmetic economy and loot crates are also a long-running sore point.
