Synopsis

Toribash is a free-to-play, turn-based fighting game built entirely on ragdoll physics. Instead of pressing attack buttons, players pause time and set each joint of their fighter to contract, extend, hold or relax, then watch the physics play out. Matches run online in many community mods, from martial arts duels to parkour and soccer.

Reception

Early coverage such as Fun-Motion called its joint-based control a remarkable take on the fighting game, noting the controls take some time to learn. The PC version never gathered enough critic reviews for a Metascore. Steam players rate it Very Positive and praise its depth and creativity, though many describe a steep learning curve and joke that even black belts cannot walk. A March 2026 review warns that login details are stored in plain text on disk.

Design today

3/5
  • Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboard
Every move is built by toggling individual joints with mouse and keyboard, keys cannot be remapped and there is no controller support. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, fun-motion.com.
  • Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screens
The game supports widescreen resolutions and borderless windowed mode, and a 2025 update made the room list scale its interface to the current resolution. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamstore-a.akamaihd.net.
  • Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progress
There is no campaign to save: play is match by match, and Qi, belt rank and ToriCoins are kept on the online account. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
  • Hard to make progress without a guide
Built-in tutorials walk through the basics, camera control and kicking, yet players widely describe a steep learning curve, joke that even black belts cannot walk, and say top-level skill can take years. Source: steamstore-a.akamaihd.net, steamcommunity.com.
  • Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtracking
Cosmetics and belt progress depend on Qi and ToriCoins earned through matches, while Prime, boosters and a premium battle pass are sold to speed up those rewards. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
  • Camera and movement never fight the player
Time is paused while moves are set, the default camera turns freely with WASD or the mouse (the intro tutorial teaches it), and the number keys switch to extra modes. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamstore-a.akamaihd.net.
