Synopsis
Transport Tycoon Deluxe is a business simulation in which you build a transport company from scratch, laying rail, roads, airports and docks across a generated map. You carry passengers, mail and goods between towns and industries with trains, buses, trucks, ships and aircraft over many decades. This Deluxe version adds four climates, extra vehicles and a scenario editor to the 1994 original.

Reception
Transport Tycoon Deluxe is remembered as a classic of the genre for its freedom and its detailed, lively pixel world, and it inspired the long-running OpenTTD remake. Retrospectives still admire its windowed interface but fault weak rivals, a shaky economy and heavy busywork from replacing aging vehicles. The 2026 Steam release has a mixed user score, with many negative reviews protesting that it became the paid route to OpenTTD on Steam. Players also criticize its fixed near-square resolution, poor scaling and missing fixes from later community patches.

Design today
3/5- Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardEverything is done with the mouse through a toolbar and draggable windows, and clicking a vehicle jumps the main view to it. Source: filfre.net, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThe game is locked to a near-square low resolution with no widescreen option, players criticize the pixel scaling, and important notifications are easy to miss in the late game. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com, choicestgames.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressGames can be saved at any point through the disk icon under any name, with as many saves as needed, and an optional autosave runs every 3, 6 or 12 game months. Source: tt-ms.de, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideFive on-screen demonstrations show how to set up road, rail, air and sea services, but they are watched rather than played, and hidden rules such as a vehicle cap shared by all companies, or trains that refuse to leave depots until told to ignore signals, are never explained. Source: tt-ms.de, choicestgames.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingVehicles age and break down more often, so the late game turns into sending each one to a depot and replacing it by hand, which critics call pure busywork. Source: filfre.net, choicestgames.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerThe isometric map scrolls freely and windows can jump the view to any vehicle or station, though one player reports stutter while scrolling. Source: filfre.net, steamcommunity.com.
