How to get Beyond Divinity running today
- If characters and objects render as solid black, add dxwrapper to the game folder using its d3d9.dll and set FixPerfCounterUptime to 1 in its config (Steam Community).
- If the game or its animations run too fast, use DxWnd 2.04.74 with a 38 ms frame delay on div.exe as described on PCGamingWiki.
- For readable text at high resolutions, install the Larger Font for High Resolutions patch.
- If the Act 4 instructor for The Third Summoning is stuck inside a closed room, stand next to its wall and press Alt+Tab several times until a character clips inside (Steam Community).
Synopsis
An isometric action role-playing game in which a paladin is magically bound to a death knight, so the two must travel and fight together while searching for a way to break the link. You control both characters at once through dungeons, towns and randomly generated battlefield areas, building their skills and solving the odd puzzle along the way.

Reception
Critics at release liked the size of the adventure, the detailed character building and the dry humor, while pointing to uneven balance, a tough difficulty and battlefield dungeons that add little; it holds a 73 Metascore on PC. Players today still enjoy the writing and jokes. Recent Steam reviews describe it as a step down from Divine Divinity, with clumsy inventory management, frequent crashes, dull later acts and the frustration of losing the game when either character dies.

- All of its content still works (servers, DLC, unlocks)The game is single-player only, and the Steam release is DRM-free with no content removed (PCGamingWiki).
- No proper support for modern resolutions and widescreenWidescreen resolutions need a config file edit, and the HUD does not scale (PCGamingWiki).
- No full controller support and no remappable controlsThere is no controller support, though keys can be remapped (PCGamingWiki).
- ?Not confirmed yetSteam Deck Verified or PlayableNo source covers the current version yet, so this check counts as open, not passed. Played it lately? Tell us
- No intrusive DRM or required third-party launcher account
- No pay-to-win or pushy microtransactions
- Known game-breaking bugs in the current versionPlayers report frequent crashes to desktop and quest characters that vanish and stall the story, and a fourth-act glitch traps a main-quest NPC unless an Alt+Tab trick is used (Steam Community, Steam Community).
Design today
1/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardThere is no controller support, and the mouse controls require steering two soul-bound characters at once, which a most-helpful Steam review calls clunky and hard to control in combat. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThe HUD does not scale with resolution, so text is tiny on modern screens without a fan font patch, and players note the small health bars are easy to miss. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Saving is harsh: few saves or checkpoints, progress gets lostQuicksave rotates through only five slots that cannot be increased, and several players report corrupted saves late in the game and advise keeping backup hard saves. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideThe first boss outlevels the party with no chance to grind, so players report looking up character builds online to get past it. Source: steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingRandomly generated battlefield dungeons pad the long campaign, and players describe the later acts as repetitive and dragging. Source: metacritic.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera or movement fights the playerGameplay is capped at 38 frames per second with vsync always on, and on modern systems the game can run too fast or at low frame rates until DxWnd is set up. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
