How to get Earth 2150 Trilogy running today
- Do not pick a 16:9 resolution in setup.exe, since the game crashes when the Construction menu opens; choose a 4:3 or 16:10 resolution there, or apply the unofficial patches that PCGamingWiki points to.
- If the mouse cursor jumps around, install MixSets and set FixMouseMovement = 1, as described on PCGamingWiki.
- The frame rate is capped at 20 FPS; open the console with Enter and type graphrate 60 to raise it (PCGamingWiki).
- For 4K, use dgVoodoo 2 with the Direct3D HAL adapter and a 2400×1800 custom resolution, since the cursor disappears above 1800 pixels high (PCGamingWiki).
Synopsis
Earth 2150 Trilogy bundles the 3D real-time strategy game Earth 2150: Escape from the Blue Planet with its two standalone follow-ups, The Moon Project and Lost Souls. As Earth falls toward the sun, three factions race to gather resources and ship them off the planet, and players design their own units from chassis and weapon parts, dig tunnels, manage finite ammunition and carry a home base across a long campaign.

Reception
Critics in 2000 respected its ambition and fully 3D maps, but some found it overly complex, with a clumsy interface of large windows and tiny icons and a slow rhythm of mining and research between battles. A 2016 retrospective praised the three distinct factions and the depth of the tech tree while calling mandatory unit design and drawn-out endgames tiresome. Recent Steam players are mostly positive and enjoy the nostalgia, tunnels and long campaigns, but many say the game has aged, needs tinkering to run, and crashes on modern Windows.

Design today
1/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardDirecting units works, but the orders panel gets crowded and players today describe the controls as clunky and dated. Source: justgamesretro.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThe interface uses large, clunky windows with tiny icons, and on widescreen screens the GUI is stretched and gameplay is cropped. Source: gamerevolution.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is harsh: few saves or checkpoints, progress gets lostPCGamingWiki confirms local save files in the game folder and Steam Cloud sync, but no source opened states whether a mission can be saved at any point or how the campaign carries progress over. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideThe learning curve is very steep, with unit design, finite ammunition and resupply all left for the player to work out. Source: justgamesretro.com, gamerevolution.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingBattles are broken up by long stretches of mining and research, and missions often end with tedious harvesting and transport runs. Source: gamerevolution.com, justgamesretro.com.
- Camera or movement fights the playerThe 3D camera rotates freely but zoom and tilt are limited, and reviewers found it messy to manage in the middle of a battle. Source: gamerevolution.com, justgamesretro.com.
