Synopsis
Earth 2160 is a science fiction real-time strategy game from Reality Pump, set after Earth's destruction as human factions fight over Mars and an alien threat emerges. Players command four very different sides across separate campaigns, skirmish and online play, building bases, gathering resources and designing and upgrading units.

Reception
Critics in 2005 praised the detailed graphics, the four distinct factions and the strategic depth of researching counters, while criticizing a clunky interface, uneven voice acting, a forgettable story and a high difficulty even on the easiest setting; the PC version holds a Metascore of 73. Reviewers also found campaign missions slow to finish because heavy defenses drag battles out. On Steam it is Mostly Positive, with recent players enjoying its complex factions and unit upgrades. Others call it routine and note that the controls take time to learn.

Design today
3.5/5- Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardIt uses standard mouse and keyboard RTS controls with full key remapping, though players say the unit commands take some time to learn; there is no controller support. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensReviewers found the menus clunky, with crowded icons and similar looking build options, and the interface needs registry edits to avoid stretching at ultrawide and 4K resolutions. Source: worthplaying.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressThe manual describes saving and loading from the in-game menu at any time, plus an optional autosave that runs every one to 30 minutes and keeps the last three autosaves. Source: store.steampowered.com.
- It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressThe first mission of the Eurasian Dynasty campaign works as a fairly complete tutorial, and tooltips explain buttons, although the interface stays hard to learn. Source: store.steampowered.com, multiplayer.it, worthplaying.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingCampaign missions take a long time to finish, as strong defensive structures make battles drag on and drain resources. Source: worthplaying.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerThe free 3D camera zooms and tilts with the mouse wheel and turns with the right mouse button, a fixed setting is available, and picture-in-picture windows can follow individual units. Source: store.steampowered.com, multiplayer.it, worthplaying.com.
