Synopsis
Kohan II: Kings of War is a fantasy real-time strategy game in which armies are built from companies of soldiers rather than single units. Players found and upgrade settlements on fixed sites, assemble companies with a captain, front line and support troops, and guard supply lines across large maps. It offers a story campaign across several races, skirmishes against the AI and multiplayer.

Reception
Critics at release praised its streamlined economy, company system and unusually smart AI that probes, flanks and counterattacks. Reviewers found the story and fantasy setting generic and the graphics and sound unremarkable, and one called the tutorial missions too thin to explain the game. Players today still rate it highly for its AI and thoughtful pace, helped by a 2026 modernization update. Some recent players point to clipping units and campaign missions with harsh extra fail conditions.

Design today
4.5/5- Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardOrders go to whole companies instead of single soldiers, which keeps mouse control simple, and four hotkey presets are offered even though keys cannot be freely remapped. Source: gamingnexus.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screensThe interface is clean and intuitive, and the 2026 update fixed text size at 125 to 250 percent Windows scaling and added borderless fullscreen alongside widescreen support. - Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressCampaign missions and scenarios can be saved, and since the 2026 update they also autosave every three minutes by default. Source: steamstore-a.akamaihd.net, steamstore-a.akamaihd.net.
- Hard to make progress without a guideThe tutorial missions cover too little of the company and supply systems, and a lost battle gives little clue about what went wrong. Source: worthplaying.com.
- Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingSettlements gather resources on their own and each building choice takes one click, so play centers on expansion and battle with little busywork. Source: worthplaying.com, honestgamers.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerThe overhead camera scrolls at the screen edge, and the updated build keeps the mouse locked to the game window so edge scrolling works on multi-monitor setups. Source: steamcommunity.com.
