How to get Lost Planet: Extreme Condition running today
- If the game crashes in DirectX 10 mode, switch to DirectX 9 mode or copy the older dxgi.dll and d3d10.dll files into the game folder, as described on PCGamingWiki.
- Cap the frame rate at 60 fps to keep cutscene audio in sync (PCGamingWiki).
Synopsis
A third-person shooter from Capcom set on a frozen colony world overrun by giant insect-like aliens called the Akrid. As Wayne, a snow pirate with amnesia, you fight on foot with a grappling hook or climb into walking mechs called Vital Suits. Thermal energy keeps you alive in the cold and drains constantly, so you keep harvesting it from fallen enemies.

Reception
Critics praised the snowy visuals, the mech combat and the huge boss fights, and the PC version scored a 66 Metascore. Reviewers criticized stiff controls, endlessly respawning enemies, being knocked down repeatedly and a story that is hard to follow. Players today still enjoy the Vital Suits and the boss battles and report that it runs well, including on Steam Deck. Many also call the combat repetitive and the human enemy AI weak.
