How to get Men of Valor running today
- Turn off the default mouse smoothing by setting MouseSmoothingMode=0 and MouseSmoothingStrength=0.000000 under [Engine.PlayerInput] in System\User.ini after the first launch (PCGamingWiki).
- If the options screen crashes a non-English version, delete User.ini and PROFILE_Shepard from the SYSTEM folder and set the options again (PCGamingWiki).
Synopsis
Men of Valor is a squad-based first-person shooter set in the Vietnam War, following a young Marine through the conflict from 1965 to 1968. Missions move through jungle, rice paddies, ruined cities and river patrols, with turret sections on boats and helicopters. Letters home and news footage between missions frame the story.
Reception
Critics gave the PC version mixed to good reviews, with a Metascore of 71, and praised the atmosphere, the letters home and the range of settings. Common complaints were sparse checkpoints, unhelpful squadmates and levels that funnel the player down narrow scripted paths. Steam players rate it Mixed and single out the checkpoint-only save system, while fans still value it as one of the few Vietnam shooters with real atmosphere.

Design today
1/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardThere is no controller support, and mouse smoothing is on by default and can only be turned off in a config file, though keys can be remapped. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThere are no subtitles for dialog or cutscenes, and 4K resolutions are not supported. The game also mutes whenever it loses focus, with no option to change that. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is harsh: few saves or checkpoints, progress gets lostProgress saves only at fixed checkpoints with no manual save, and PC reviewers and Steam players say they sit far apart, sometimes in the middle of firefights, so a death can mean replaying a long stretch. Source: gamerstemple.com, steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideLevels are tightly scripted, with ambushes, booby traps and waves of enemies that players mostly learn by dying and retrying from distant checkpoints. Source: gamerstemple.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingCheckpoints sit about five minutes of firefights apart, cutscenes cannot be skipped, and reviewers found the missions choreographed runs from one event to the next. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com, gamerstemple.com.
- Camera or movement fights the playerThere is no field of view setting, and mouse smoothing is on by default. Jungle levels are narrow corridors walled in by impassable foliage, and vehicle sections run on fixed paths. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, gamerstemple.com.
