How to get Rayman Raving Rabbids running today
- Install DirectSound 3D restoration software such as DSOAL to stop the game locking itself to 32 fps and to prevent launch crashes; with DSOAL, turn on EAX reverb in the options to avoid a later crash (PCGamingWiki).
- If the game reports that no BigFile was specified, launch it with the command line argument /B /TX Rayman4.bf or through CheckApplication.exe (PCGamingWiki).
- For widescreen, set the ScreenMode registry entry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ubisoft\Rayman4 to 0; running SettingsApplication.exe undoes the change (PCGamingWiki).
- If in-game videos fail to play, add or correct the video_folder registry entry so it points to the game's video folder (PCGamingWiki).
- If the game crashes after loading a save with a controller, disable vibration using the keyboard before switching back to controller input (PCGamingWiki).
Synopsis
Rayman Raving Rabbids is a party game in which Rayman is captured by an invading army of screaming, slapstick rabbits and forced to compete in their arena. Over 15 days you clear sets of short minigames, from cow tossing to dance contests, to win plungers and build your way out. Rail shooter levels with plunger guns break up the minigames, and up to four players can compete locally.

Reception
The PC port scored far lower than the Wii original, with critics saying it lost the motion controls that made the minigames fun and calling it repetitive and short-lived. The Rabbids themselves won praise for their humor and became Ubisoft's breakout characters. Players on Steam rate it highly, mostly out of nostalgia, and some find the mouse a surprisingly good stand-in for motion controls. Others report black screens, controller trouble and minigames that are maddening with a mouse, and several say it needs tinkering to run well.

- Needs fan patches to run well on Windows 11
- ?Not confirmed yetSingle-player works without an internet connectionNo source covers the current version yet, so this check counts as open, not passed. Played it lately? Tell us
- All of its content still works (servers, DLC, unlocks)The game never had online play, and local multiplayer for up to four players still works (PCGamingWiki).
- No proper support for modern resolutions and widescreenWidescreen and ultrawide are only hackable through the registry, and the lost vertical view affects some minigames (PCGamingWiki).
- Full controller support or remappable controlsXInput controllers are supported, though not fully, and the input device can only be changed from the main menu (PCGamingWiki).
- Not Steam Deck Verified or Playable
- No intrusive DRM or required third-party launcher account
- No pay-to-win or pushy microtransactions
- No known game-breaking bugs in the current versionLaunch crashes, the 32 fps lock, video playback and controller crashes all have listed fixes, with no unresolved issues (PCGamingWiki).
Design today
2.5/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardThe minigames were built for motion controls, and critics found the mouse and keyboard replacement awkward; keys cannot be remapped, and controller support is partial and can crash the game with vibration on. Source: metacritic.com, pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensWidescreen needs a registry edit and cuts vertical view, which hurts some minigames, and on Steam players report having to adjust resolution and video settings before the game displays properly. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressProgress through the 15 days is kept in one save file, and play is split into short separate minigames rather than long levels; how often the game saves is not documented. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, metacritic.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideThe PC port dropped the animated demonstration that shows how to play each event, and players still ask on the forums how basic minigames such as the cow toss work. Source: metacritic.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingCritics called the PC version repetitive and short-lived fun, with PC Gamer UK and PC Zone UK both marking it down for it. Source: metacritic.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerThe camera is fixed per minigame and the rail shooter levels move on their own, leaving the mouse free to aim, which current players say works well. Source: steamcommunity.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
