Synopsis
Red Faction: Guerrilla is an open-world third-person shooter set on Mars, where miner Alec Mason joins a resistance movement against the occupying Earth Defense Force. Its core is physics-based destruction: buildings, bridges and bases can be torn apart piece by piece with hammers, explosives and vehicles while you liberate one sector of the map after another.

Reception
Critics in 2009 praised the destruction as the best yet seen and found the campaign full of content, giving the PC version a Metascore of 82, while faulting the thin story and repetitive side tasks. The Steam Edition is no longer sold separately, but its owners still rate it Very Positive on Steam and single out the building demolition as unmatched. Later reviews of the remaster repeat the old complaints: limited checkpoints, weak gunplay, floaty vehicles and missions that grow repetitive.

3.5/5- Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardFull controller support and remappable mouse and keyboard controls are included, with button prompts that follow the chosen input; vehicles handle loosely. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, destructoid.com.
- Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screensThe Steam version supports widescreen and ultrawide resolutions natively; the interface is scaled up at 4K and stretched only on ultrawide and multi-monitor setups. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is harsh: few saves or checkpoints, progress gets lostMissions have few checkpoints and no automatic restart after failure, so a failed or crashed mission sends the player back to the last autosave. Source: destructoid.com.
- It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressPC Gamer UK judged the difficulty curve pitch perfect, and on-screen button prompts match the chosen input device. Source: metacritic.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingLiberating each sector means repeating the same kinds of guerrilla actions and side tasks, which reviews from GameWatcher in 2009 to Destructoid on the remaster call repetitive. Source: metacritic.com, destructoid.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerThe over-the-shoulder camera behaves well in combat, and the field of view can be set from 45 to 85 degrees in single-player. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
