Synopsis
A 2D action platformer with roguelike runs through a castle that rearranges itself every time a hero dies. Each run is played by a descendant of the last, with random traits such as color blindness or dwarfism, and the gold gathered pays for permanent upgrades to the family manor that make the next heir stronger.
What people say
Critics in 2013 praised its clever heir system, quirky traits and the steady sense of progress that softens its difficulty. Players today still enjoy its one-more-run loop and credit it with helping popularize the roguelite genre. The most common complaints are a slow, grindy opening where early heirs die in a few hits, controls that some find floaty or unresponsive, and weak mouse and keyboard support. Some players also report crashes and fullscreen trouble on modern PCs.
Playability today
Playability runs from 1 to 5. It is the average of two parts. Each part starts at 1 and climbs to 5 as more of its checks pass. Read the method.

Design today: 3.5 / 5
- ✗Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardControl responsiveness is a frequent Steam complaint, with players calling movement floaty and mouse and keyboard support weak. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screensThe menus are simple and readable, though they cannot be used with a mouse; evidence on the interface is thin. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressDeath is part of the design, and gold and upgrades carry over between runs, so no long-term progress is lost. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressThe loop of dying, upgrading and retrying is easy to grasp without a guide, though players find the opening hours harsh. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✗Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingExcessive grinding and slow early progression is the most cited complaint in Steam reviews. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓Camera and movement never fight the playerThe side-on camera tracks the player plainly and draws no complaints in the reviews found; evidence is thin. Source: vaporlens.app.
