Synopsis
Dishonored is a first-person stealth and action game set in Dunwall, a plague-ridden industrial city. As Corvo, a bodyguard framed for murder, you take on assassination missions across large, layered levels, using supernatural powers such as short-range teleporting to sneak past guards or fight through them.
What people say
Critics in 2012 praised the freedom of its levels, the inventive powers and the city's look, and it is still regularly named among the best stealth games. A 2025 retrospective found the levels and the Blink power as strong as ever but called the plot predictable and said the campaign loses momentum in its final missions. A recurring player complaint is the chaos system, which darkens the world and the ending when you kill a lot, and which some feel quietly punishes using half the toolset.

Design today
5 / 5✓Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboard
Keyboard and mouse controls are standard first-person, with powers on quick keys and full key remapping. A controller can be used, but option changes made with one do not always persist, so mouse and keyboard is the safer choice. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, cubed3.com.
✓Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screens
The HUD is sparse and the game offers 4K and widescreen resolutions plus an FOV slider from 65 to 110 degrees. The menus work with the mouse and need no fixes. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
✓Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progress
Saving is generous: 40 manual slots, a quicksave slot, two autosave slots and automatic saves at each mission. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
✓It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progress
The opening escape introduces movement, stealth and powers through play, and later guidance stays subtle but sufficient. Source: cubed3.com.
✓Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtracking
Missions are dense rather than large and the campaign is tight. The last few maps lose some momentum but never become filler. Source: cubed3.com.
✓Camera and movement never fight the player
Blink teleporting and climbing make movement fluid, and critics single it out as the game's best feature. Source: cubed3.com.
