How to get Sacred 2 Gold running today
- Install one of the unofficial patches, the Community Patch or the Purist Fixpack, which fix most crashes, the broken PhysX support and quest bugs (PCGamingWiki).
- Leave the PhysX option off unless one of those patches is installed (PCGamingWiki).
- If the interface disappears, switch to the map view and back until it returns (PCGamingWiki).
Synopsis
Sacred 2 is an open-world action RPG set in Ancaria, a huge fantasy land torn apart by a war over a mysterious energy called T-Energy. You pick one of seven heroes, choose a light or shadow campaign, and roam a seamless map full of quests, dungeons and loot, fighting crowds of monsters on foot or on horseback. The Ice & Blood expansion adds a new hero and new regions.
Reception
Critics in 2008 praised the enormous world, the deep character builds and the sheer amount of loot, but many found the game buggy, the quests repetitive and the story muddled; it holds a PC Metascore of 71. Players on Steam still recommend it warmly as a sprawling old-school loot game. Many recent reviews, however, report crashes on modern Windows and say the game is hard to enjoy without the community patch.

- Needs fan patches to run well on Windows 11
- ?Not confirmed yetSingle-player works without an internet connectionNo source covers the current version yet, so this check counts as open, not passed. Played it lately? Tell us
- Some content no longer works (servers, DLC, unlocks)The official TinCat multiplayer service has shut down, leaving only a community lobby, and the Collector's Edition Elite Textures are not included in digital releases (PCGamingWiki).
- Supports modern resolutions and widescreenWidescreen and 4K resolutions are supported, and ultrawide needs a config edit (PCGamingWiki).
- No full controller support and no remappable controlsThe PC version has no controller support (PCGamingWiki).
- Not Steam Deck Verified or Playable
- No intrusive DRM or required third-party launcher account
- No pay-to-win or pushy microtransactions
- Known game-breaking bugs in the current versionWithout community patches the game crashes often on modern systems, partly because of a flawed PhysX implementation, and some quest triggers break (PCGamingWiki).
Design today
3/5- Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardThe game uses standard click-to-move mouse controls with swappable skill and weapon slots; the PC version never received controller support. Source: worthplaying.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensInventory and loot handling are clumsy, with dropped items vanishing on a timer, no personal portal or storage, and quest givers talking over combat; a known bug can also make the whole interface disappear. Source: worthplaying.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressOn death the hero comes back to life at the nearest resurrection monolith the player has activated, so a defeat costs a walk rather than lost progress, and saves sit in the Windows Saved Games folder. Source: worthplaying.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideThe stat and skill systems are confusing and the base game allows no respec, so long-time players send newcomers to a fan wiki to plan builds before they start and warn of a steep learning curve. Source: steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingTravel across the huge map wastes time even on horseback, the main campaign plays like a string of chores, and side quests repeat the same fetch and kill tasks. Source: worthplaying.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerThe overhead camera follows the hero closely in a top-down view and supports widescreen and 4K without adjustment; changing the field of view is only needed for ultrawide screens. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, worthplaying.com.
