Synopsis

Still Life 2 is a third person point-and-click thriller that closes the story begun in Post Mortem and Still Life. FBI agent Victoria McPherson hunts a serial killer with a forensic field kit, while reporter Paloma Hernandez, held captive in the killer's house, must escape his traps. Play switches between the two heroines across code puzzles, evidence analysis and timed escapes.

Reception

Critics were lukewarm, giving the PC version a 67 Metascore. GameBoomers liked the forensic kit and some clever code puzzles, but criticized the cramped inventory, shifting camera angles, timed sequences with little warning and an ending that cannot be retried from earlier saves, only through a hidden menu puzzle. Steam players remain split: some value it for wrapping up the first game's story, while others call it a big step down from Still Life. Common complaints are pixel hunting, repetitive locations, weak voice acting and bugs that stall progress.

  • All of its content still works (servers, DLC, unlocks)
The game is single player only and nothing has been removed from the current release (PCGamingWiki).
  • No proper support for modern resolutions and widescreen
The resolution is fixed at 1024×768 with no widescreen support (PCGamingWiki).

There is no controller support and keys cannot be remapped (PCGamingWiki).
  • Steam Deck Verified or Playable
  • No intrusive DRM or required third-party launcher account
  • No pay-to-win or pushy microtransactions
  • Known game-breaking bugs in the current version

  • Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboard
Movement and interaction run on simple mouse clicks, with a right click opening the phone, inventory and lab kit. Keys cannot be remapped and there is no controller support. Source: gameboomers.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
  • Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screens
The game is locked to 1024×768 with no widescreen or windowed mode and no gamma option for its dark scenes, and the small grid inventory forces constant juggling of items. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
  • Saving is harsh: few saves or checkpoints, progress gets lost
Manual saves are free, but the timed final sequence gets a single chance: failing it sends every earlier save to the bad ending, and the only retry is an unexplained extra puzzle that appears on the main menu. Source: gameboomers.com.
  • Hard to make progress without a guide
Several code puzzles have obscure solutions, and pixel hunting and missed triggers send players to walkthroughs, as reviewers and Steam threads note. Source: gameboomers.com, steamcommunity.com.
  • Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtracking
Most of the game reuses one house, and the limited inventory makes players carry bulky items back and forth between rooms. Source: steamcommunity.com, gameboomers.com.
  • Camera or movement fights the player
Fixed camera angles change from scene to scene, so a direction that meant up on one screen can mean down on the next, and reviewers single out the camera as a source of frustration. Source: gameboomers.com, steamcommunity.com.
