How to get Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Lockdown running today
- If the screen goes gray or teammates vanish on the ladder in mission 8 (Distillery), run Lockdown.exe in Windows XP (Service Pack 3) compatibility mode (PCGamingWiki, Steam Community).
- Cap the frame rate at 60 fps, or turn on Vsync at a 60 Hz refresh rate, so scripts in the hospital mission do not break (PCGamingWiki).
- For jittery or inconsistent mouse movement, install dinput8wrapper in the game folder (PCGamingWiki).
- For correct widescreen and a custom field of view, apply the community Widescreen & FOV Fix linked from PCGamingWiki.
Synopsis
Rainbow Six: Lockdown is a squad-based shooter from Red Storm in which you lead the counter-terrorist team Rainbow against a group spreading a deadly nanotech virus. Over 16 linear missions you pick weapons and gear, breach rooms and give simple orders to three AI teammates. It also offers co-op and competitive multiplayer over LAN.

Reception
Lockdown first came out on consoles in 2005, and the 2006 PC version earned a mixed Metacritic score of 59. Critics liked the visuals, sound and co-op but faulted weak enemy and teammate AI, long and similar linear levels, and the loss of the planning depth the series was known for. Players today largely agree, calling it a dumbed-down bridge between Rainbow Six 3 and Vegas with clumsy squad AI. Some still enjoy it as a fast arcade shooter and like that it allows saving in the middle of a mission.

Design today
2.5/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardThere is no controller support, and mouse movement is jittery and inconsistent on modern systems without a third-party wrapper. Players also describe the game as clunky to play today. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensMenus render only at 1024×768, the 3D view crops at widescreen resolutions without a fan fix, and the HUD and crosshair scale poorly at high resolutions. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressQuicksaves with F5 are allowed at any time in a mission, a change from Rainbow Six 3 that reviewers single out because it removes much of the old frustration. Source: steamcommunity.com.
- It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressMissions are linear with simple objectives, and the basic squad commands are easy to pick up, so progress rarely needs outside help. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingCritics and players describe the levels as long, linear corridors that feel alike, with repetitive objectives across the campaign. Source: metacritic.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera or movement fights the playerMovement breaks on some ladders: climbing one early in the Distillery mission can black out the screen, and others throw the player or squadmates out of the map. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
