How to get Assassin’s Creed Unity running today
- Cap the frame rate below about 130 FPS (for example with your graphics driver), since above that distant objects and most interiors may fail to load.
- Mouse smoothing is forced and sensitivity drops as the frame rate rises; the community Disable Mouse Smoothing mod listed on PCGamingWiki removes it.
- If the game crashes after about 15 minutes, close the touch keyboard process TabTip.exe before launching.
Synopsis
An open-world stealth action game set in Paris during the French Revolution. As the young assassin Arno, you climb and run across a detailed recreation of the city, take on assassination missions with several approaches, and solve murder cases and side activities between story chapters.
What people say
At release, critics admired the scale and beauty of revolutionary Paris and the dense crowds, but a buggy, poorly performing launch dominated the coverage, and the story was widely called flat. Once patched, it settled into a reputation as a middling but not terrible entry. Players today often praise its free-flowing parkour as among the best in the series, while still citing sticky controls, map clutter, filler side content and uneven PC performance.
Playability today
Playability runs from 1 to 5. It is the average of two parts. Each part starts at 1 and climbs to 5 as more of its checks pass. Read the method.

- ✗Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardSteam reviewers often call the parkour and combat inputs clunky and unpredictable, and a 2024 retrospective notes a stickiness on jumps and descents. Source: vaporlens.app, ryanmilford.substack.com.
- ✗Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screensThe map is crowded with icons for collectibles and side activities, a common complaint that makes the world harder to read. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressAutosaves and mission checkpoints are frequent, though evidence on saving is thin and players rarely mention it. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressThe early missions introduce climbing, stealth and combat step by step, though key combat skills unlock only later; evidence here is limited. Source: ryanmilford.substack.com.
- ✗Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingThe story drags for its first half and much of the side content is seen as repetitive filler. Source: ryanmilford.substack.com, vaporlens.app.
- ✗Camera and movement never fight the playerArno often makes unintended jumps or gets stuck on geometry, so movement can fight the player at critical moments. Source: vaporlens.app.
