Reception
Critics were split at release, with a PC Metascore of 58: they praised the painted backgrounds, sound and dark atmosphere, but faulted weak voice acting, a slow pace and much walking back and forth. Players have been kinder, and it sits at Very Positive on Steam, with some still ranking it among the best mystery adventures. Others returning to it today call it slow and say progress often waits on unclear triggers.

Design today
2.5/5- Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardIt is a pure mouse point-and-click game with click to walk and interact; there is no controller support and no key remapping, and none is needed. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThe game runs only at 800×600 with no widescreen or high resolution option, so it is stretched or pillarboxed on modern displays unless a fan mod is installed. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressThe game can be saved at any time from the menu hidden in the top-right corner of the screen, into 24 named slots. Wrong moves can lead straight to a Game Over screen, so frequent saving matters. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com, gamingnexus.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideA chapter cannot move on until every required task is done, and Gaming Nexus found it often unclear which tasks those are. A 2024 player likewise found new hotspots and dialogue appearing only after unclear triggers. Source: gamingnexus.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingCritics at release faulted the slow pace and unnecessary walking back and forth, and a 2024 player still calls everything in the game slow. Source: metacritic.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera or movement fights the playerScreens are fixed pre-rendered views, but Samuel moves slowly between them, a complaint from critics at release and from players today. Source: metacritic.com, steamcommunity.com.
