Synopsis
Mata Hari is a third-person point-and-click adventure that follows the dancer Mata Hari as she is drawn into espionage across Europe before and during World War I. Players explore scenes, combine items, talk their way through conversations, and play dance, seduction and logic minigames, with optional tasks feeding into one of several endings.

Reception
Critics were split at release, and the game holds a 63 PC Metascore. UHS gave it 3.5 out of 5, praising the artwork and story while calling the repeated travel and long dialogues tiresome. Players on Steam today land at Mixed: they like the Belle Epoque setting, the full voice acting and the multiple endings, but several say the constant travel between countries drags the game down.

Design today
4.5/5- Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardEverything is done with the mouse: click to walk and interact, double-click an exit to jump to the next scene, and press the spacebar to show hotspots. Source: gameboomers.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screensWidescreen resolutions are supported, and a small icon panel in the corner holds the options, save menu and diary; dialog subtitles exist but are off by default. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, gameboomers.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressSaves are unlimited and can be made at any time from the load and save menu, each with a custom name. Source: gameboomers.com.
- It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressThe spacebar reveals every hotspot, inventory puzzles are straightforward, and a panic button lets players skip minigames they cannot beat. Source: gameboomers.com, uhs-hints.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingMoving between cities means repeated train trips, each with a board minigame on the way, and both the UHS review and Steam players name this travel as the main source of tedium. Source: uhs-hints.com, gameboomers.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera and movement never fight the playerMovement is click to walk through set scenes, and double-clicking an exit jumps straight to the next one, so there is no camera to manage, though Mata never runs. Source: gameboomers.com, steamcommunity.com.
