Synopsis
Men of War is a World War II real-time tactics game with 19 missions across Soviet, German and Allied campaigns. You command squads, tanks and artillery on large destructible maps, manage each soldier's weapons, ammunition and supplies, and can take direct control of any single unit to steer and aim it yourself.

Reception
Critics gave it a PC Metascore of 80, praising its detailed simulation, destructible battlefields, varied missions and the direct control mode. The same reviews warned that it is punishingly hard, has fiddly controls, poor unit pathfinding and no proper tutorial, and that the cutscenes and voice acting are amateurish. Players still rate it highly, with a Very Positive Steam rating from about 3,600 reviews, though many describe it as difficult and buggy for newcomers. The game is no longer sold on Steam.

Design today
2.5/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardA complex control scheme with heavy micromanagement and many commands to memorize stands between you and the action, and units path poorly around buildings. Source: expertreviews.co.uk, cheatcc.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensOrders run through a dense panel of small buttons for weapons, stance, fire mode and formation, and reviewers singled out awkward interface issues. Source: gamestar.de, cheatcc.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressSaving and loading are allowed at any point in a mission, and players lean on frequent saves to get through its hard fights and stealth sections. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Hard to make progress without a guideThere are no tutorial missions and few tooltips, so the game drops you straight into hard battles and objectives are not always clear. Source: expertreviews.co.uk, cheatcc.com.
- Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingEach of the 19 missions lasts roughly 30 to 60 minutes and changes the task, from defending a rail yard to sneaking in with a single soldier. Source: gamestar.de, expertreviews.co.uk.
- Camera or movement fights the playerDirect control movement responds sluggishly and imprecisely in firefights, and units left to themselves wander in cover or get stuck on buildings. Source: gamestar.de, expertreviews.co.uk.
