Synopsis
A short story-driven adventure made in RPG Maker by Kan Gao's Freebird Games, about two doctors who can rewrite a dying person's memories to grant a last wish. The player walks backward through an old man's life, collecting mementos and solving small tile puzzles to unlock each earlier memory.
What people say
Critics in 2011 praised its writing, its emotional weight and its piano-led soundtrack, and GameSpot named it the best story of the year. The same reviewers pointed out that there is very little game in it, with only light puzzles and exploration. Steam players still describe it as moving and often say it made them cry, while warning that it is almost all story and best taken in a single four-hour sitting.

Design today
4.5 / 5✓Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboard
Movement and interaction need only a direction and one action button, and controllers are fully supported with remapping in the F1 menu. Controllers do not work in the game's menus, so Steam Input is the workaround there. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
✗Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screens
The game renders at a fixed 640×480 in 4:3, so it is pillarboxed on widescreen displays and looks soft when stretched; resizing the window needs a config edit. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
✓Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progress
Saving uses numbered slots with Steam Cloud sync, and the game has no fail states, so no progress can be lost. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
✓It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progress
The path is linear and the few tile puzzles are simple, so a guide is never needed. Source: steamcommunity.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
✓Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtracking
The story runs about four hours and builds steadily, with only light exploration and no grind or filler. Source: steamcommunity.com.
✓Camera and movement never fight the player
A fixed top-down view follows the characters, and movement is simple tile walking that never fights the player. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
