Synopsis
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a tactical first-person shooter in which a Rainbow team leader and two squadmates hunt a terrorist group in and around Las Vegas. Fights center on a cover system that switches to a third-person view, along with orders to breach doors, flank and clear rooms. An experience system unlocks weapons and gear across the campaign, co-op and Terrorist Hunt.

Reception
Critics liked it at release, with a PC Metascore of 78 and praise for the cover system, smart enemies and strong squad orders. Many reviewers called it closer to an expansion than a sequel, pointing to familiar settings, reused multiplayer maps and a thin plot. Players on Steam still rate it Very Positive, and some call it a much better PC port than the first Vegas. The loss of official online play in 2021 and the lack of subtitles weigh on it today.

Design today
2.5/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardOnly a wired Xbox 360 controller is officially supported, newer pads need a config edit, and controller buttons cannot be remapped. Crouch and scope work only as toggles, with no hold option. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThe game has no subtitles for its radio chatter and cutscenes. On 1440p and higher screens the resolution menu does not scroll, so some resolutions can only be picked blind. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressProgress saves at fixed checkpoints spaced closely enough that a death rarely costs more than about five minutes of replay. Source: gamecritics.com, worthplaying.com.
- It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressThe one rule that matters, staying in cover and peeking only to shoot, is taught fast by the lethal damage model. Squad orders are few and simple, and teammates clear most rooms on command. Source: worthplaying.com, gamecritics.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingSeveral critics noted recycled Las Vegas settings, three levels built from the first game's multiplayer maps and repeated fights against the same mercenaries. Reviewers likened the campaign to an expansion pack. Source: gamecritics.com, worthplaying.com, metacritic.com.
- Camera or movement fights the playerThe shift into third-person cover is smooth, but there is no field of view setting in the game. A fan FOV fix is needed to widen the narrow default view. Source: worthplaying.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
