How to get Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent running today
- Install the official 1.01 and 1.02a patches, since the Steam version ships unpatched (PCGamingWiki).
- Install ThirteenAG's Widescreen Fix by extracting its SCDA-Offline folder into the game folder; it adds widescreen, raw mouse input, an FPS limit and crash fixes (PCGamingWiki).
- Keep the frame rate at 60 FPS, since higher rates break movement, aiming and the stealth meter (PCGamingWiki).
- Before defusing the bomb at the JBA headquarters, switch to a 4:3 or 16:10 resolution to avoid a hang in the following cutscene (PCGamingWiki).
Synopsis
Splinter Cell: Double Agent is a third-person stealth game in which Sam Fisher goes undercover inside a domestic terrorist group. Missions mix classic infiltration with timed stints at the group's headquarters, where you secretly gather intelligence for the NSA. Your choices shift trust between the two sides and shape how the story ends.

Reception
Critics scored the PC version 80 on Metacritic, praising the double agent premise, the trust system and its tense headquarters missions. PCGamingWiki notes that the PC port launched with major technical problems that patches never fully solved. Players today rate the Steam version Mostly Negative, at 34 percent, mostly because of crashes, corrupted saves and broken mechanics at high frame rates. Fans who stick with it usually rely on the community widescreen and bugfix pack to make it playable.

- No intrusive DRM or required third-party launcher account

Design today
1.5/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardHalf of the commands cannot be rebound in the menu, mouse acceleration is on by default, frame rates above 60 break strafing and aiming, and only official wired Xbox 360 controllers are supported, with players reporting clashing default gamepad bindings. - Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThe game lacks native widescreen support without config edits or a fan fix, and pause menu elements can flash on screen during play. Lights also pop in and out as the camera turns. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
- Saving is harsh: few saves or checkpoints, progress gets lostThe manual offers quick saves, save slots and a quick retry to the last checkpoint, but PCGamingWiki lists unresolved crashes on save and load screens that can leave a save unusable. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, store.steampowered.com.
- It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressThe main menu has a Training mode that reviews the basic concepts, and headquarters missions offer a 3D map to help with navigation. Source: store.steampowered.com, gamingpastime.com.
- Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtrackingThe timed headquarters missions lean heavily on trial and error, since Sam often lacks his gear and must collect access items without being seen. Reviewers note this leads to frequent quick saving and reloading. Source: gamingpastime.com.
- Camera or movement fights the playerPCGamingWiki lists an unresolved bug where lights switch on and off as the camera turns, only partly fixed by a config edit, and the camera stalls in the cutscene after the final bomb defusal unless the resolution is changed first.
