  1. If the mouse cursor is invisible, open settings.ini in %APPDATA%\Ankh – Heart of Osiris\ and set cursor_type = Software (PCGamingWiki).
  2. To use your monitor's native resolution, set screen_size in the same file, for example screen_size = 2560×1440 (PCGamingWiki).

Synopsis

A cartoon-style 3D point-and-click comedy adventure set in ancient Egypt and the sequel to Ankh. Young Assil, his girlfriend Thara and the Pharaoh's grouchy friend take turns as playable characters while trying to save the land from the effects of a stolen sacred object, mostly by collecting items, combining them and talking to an odd cast of locals.

Reception

Reviews at release liked the bright cartoon art, the humor and the easy handling, though no PC Metascore exists, and Adventure-Archiv found the puzzles simpler than in the first game. GameBoomers noted translation slips and a few graphical glitches, and Adventure-Archiv saw small bugs pile up near the end. Players today give it mixed Steam reviews: genre fans enjoy the story and characters, while others complain about pixel hunting, illogical solutions, lots of running back and forth and needing a guide to finish.

Design today

3.5/5
  • Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboard
A left click walks, a double click runs, and the two mouse buttons look at or use objects, so the handling needs almost no learning. There is no controller support or key remapping. Source: adventure-archiv.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
  • Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screens
The game supports widescreen resolutions and subtitles, and any resolution can be set in settings.ini, though the in-game list is short. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, gameboomers.com.
  • Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progress
Saving is unlimited and allowed at any time, each save shows a chapter name and screenshot, and a Continue option loads the latest save. Source: gameboomers.com, adventure-archiv.com.
  • Hard to make progress without a guide
The Tab key opens a To Do list of current goals, and 2006 critics found the puzzles simpler than the first game's, but there is no hint system or hotspot highlight, some solutions call for trial and error, and several recent players say they needed a walkthrough. Source: gameboomers.com, adventure-archiv.com, steamcommunity.com.
  • Pacing drags: grind, filler or forced backtracking
Without a map the player must walk every route by hand, and several puzzles, especially near the end, send the characters running across the whole game world. Source: adventure-archiv.com, steamcommunity.com.
  • Camera and movement never fight the player
Fixed camera angles frame each scene well and characters follow clearly defined paths, so positioning is never a problem, though one key dialogue scene shows only the back of a character's head. Source: adventure-archiv.com, gameboomers.com.
