Synopsis
An interactive crime story told through live-action video, set at an old police computer from the 1990s. You type words into a search box to pull up short clips from a woman's police interviews and piece together what happened, in whatever order your searches lead you.
What people say
Critics praised it at release as one of the most original games of 2015, singling out the nonlinear storytelling, the search mechanic and Viva Seifert's lead performance, and it won many awards, including at The Game Awards and the BAFTAs. The few critical notes concerned plot points that can surface too early and occasional stiff acting. Players today still admire the concept, the atmosphere and the acting. Many others find it too passive, call the keyword guessing repetitive after the first hour, and are left unsatisfied by an ending that arrives abruptly and resolves little.
Playability today
Playability runs from 1 to 5. It is the average of two parts. Each part starts at 1 and climbs to 5 as more of its checks pass. Read the method.

Design today: 3 / 5
- ✓Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardPlay comes down to typing searches and clicking clips, which works naturally with mouse and keyboard and draws no complaints. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✗Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screensPlayers report real interface flaws, such as a vaguely labeled button that wipes the whole save and no way to quit from the desktop, and the game runs in 4:3 with low-resolution video. Source: vaporlens.app, pcgamingwiki.com.
- ✓Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressProgress is kept automatically between sessions, though the risk of erasing it by mistake is a known complaint and evidence beyond that is thin. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✗It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressMany players feel aimless because there is no stated goal or sign of progress, and finding the next clip often comes down to guessing the right word. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✗Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingA widely shared complaint is that the loop of typing words and watching clips turns tedious after the first hour, and finding every clip takes a grind of common-word searches. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓Camera and movement never fight the playerThe whole game takes place on one fixed computer screen, so there is no camera or movement to fight. Source: en.wikipedia.org).
