How to get Hitman: Blood Money running today
What you need
- Optional Mulderland's Enhancement PackAn open-source installer that adds the widescreen fix preconfigured with DxWrapper and DXVK, a 60 FPS cap and controller support, plus a configuration tool. No mod manager is needed.
- Optional nemesis2000's widescreen fixUnlocks resolutions above 1080p and corrects the field of view. Only needed if the Enhancement Pack is not used.
- Optional DXVKRuns the game's Direct3D 9 on Vulkan, which can stop the crash on the newspaper screen. Needs a Vulkan-capable graphics card.
- Optional RivaTuner Statistics ServerCaps the frame rate if DXVK is not an option.
Steps
Open a step for the full walkthrough.
-
For the simplest route, install Mulderland's Enhancement Pack, which bundles the widescreen fix, DXVK, a 60 FPS cap and controller support in one installer.
- Open the Enhancement Pack page and download the small installer, hitman-blood-money-enhancement-pack.exe.
- In Steam, right-click Hitman: Blood Money > Manage > Browse local files, and note the folder path.
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions. It downloads the files it needs and installs them.
- Use its configuration interface to pick a resolution, the graphics API and a controller, or to skip the intro videos.
- Start the game from Steam. No mod manager is needed.
- If an earlier version of the pack is installed and Mission 8 crashes with the Premastered textures, run the new installer and tick Mission 8 Crash Fix.
-
Without the pack, apply nemesis2000's widescreen fix to unlock resolutions above 1080p with the correct field of view.
- Open the widescreen fix page and click Download this file. If the archive asks for a password, enter pcgw.
- In Steam, right-click the game > Manage > Browse local files.
- Unzip the contents of the archive into that folder.
- Open h4.ini in a text editor and set the resolution you want.
- To change the field of view, add the line FOV_Multiplier = x.x under MISC in h4.ini, replacing x.x with your value.
- Start the game. The fix works with game version 1.2, the current Steam version, and not with 1.1.
-
If the game crashes on the newspaper screen after a mission, use DXVK or cap the frame rate, as listed on PCGamingWiki.
- Download the latest dxvk tar.gz from the DXVK releases page and open it with 7-Zip.
- The game is 32-bit Direct3D 9, so copy d3d9.dll from the x32 folder into the game folder (In Steam, right-click the game > Manage > Browse local files).
- Start the game and finish a mission to check the newspaper screen. To undo, delete d3d9.dll.
- If DXVK is not an option, install RivaTuner Statistics Server, add the game's exe and set Framerate limit to 60.
- As another option, set the shader quality to High (Shader Model 2.0) in the game's settings.
- If the crash remains, open the game's configuration tool and tick Override SLI and Enable SLI. This can lower performance on a single graphics card.
Synopsis
A third-person stealth game in which the contract killer Agent 47 takes jobs across the United States and beyond, from an opera house to a suburban cul-de-sac. Each mission is an open sandbox where you study targets, steal disguises and stage kills to look like accidents, with a notoriety system that remembers how messy you were.
What people say
Critics at release called it the best Hitman yet, praising its open levels, accident kills and dark humor while noting rough controls and some technical issues. Players today still rank it among the best in the series and often say its mission design holds up better than many newer stealth games. The usual complaints are stiff controls, a thin tutorial, limited saves on harder difficulties and a PC version that needs community fixes for modern resolutions and stability.
