Synopsis

A World War II shooter in which you play a paratrooper who jumps into each mission from a transport plane. Where you steer your parachute decides where the fight starts, and from there you take objectives in any order across six large battles from Sicily to a German flak tower. Weapons gain upgrades the more you use them.

Reception

Critics praised the freedom of the parachute drops, the open level design, smart enemy soldiers and an intense final mission. Reviewers criticized the short campaign, enemies that keep respawning around objectives, clumsy friendly soldiers and checkpoints that only trigger after a finished objective. Players today remember it fondly as one of the better entries in the series and like its soundtrack and weapon upgrades. Many also note that the multiplayer servers are gone, and the game is no longer sold on Steam except through the EA Play subscription.

Runs today

3/5
  • Not sold or given away today by any official source
  • Needs fan patches to run well on Windows 11
  • ?Not confirmed yetSingle-player works without an internet connection
No source covers the current version yet, so this check counts as open, not passed. Played it lately? Tell us
  • Some content no longer works (servers, DLC, unlocks)
The official multiplayer service shut down on February 16, 2023, and the game is no longer sold on Steam as a one-time purchase since January 20, 2022; it is only playable there through the EA Play subscription (PCGamingWiki).
  • Supports modern resolutions and widescreen
Widescreen resolutions work but the image is Vert- (PCGamingWiki).
  • Full controller support or remappable controls
XInput controllers work, though some options cannot be changed with a gamepad (PCGamingWiki).
  • Not Steam Deck Verified or Playable
  • No intrusive DRM or required third-party launcher account
  • No pay-to-win or pushy microtransactions
  • No known game-breaking bugs in the current version
Once the PhysX legacy software is installed, PCGamingWiki lists no open issue that crashes or blocks progress (PCGamingWiki).

Design today

2.5/5
  • Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboard
When aiming down sights, tiny mouse movements make the crosshair jump dozens of pixels, and binding the scroll wheel removes its default weapon switch with no way back. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
  • Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screens
The game was built for 4:3, and at 4K the HUD and loading screens scale poorly while the key binding screen can stop working. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
  • Saving is harsh: few saves or checkpoints, progress gets lost
Progress is checkpointed only after an objective is complete, so dying near the end of a long objective means parachuting in and fighting through it again. Source: trustedreviews.com.
  • It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progress
A boot camp tutorial comes before the first mission, and a compass points to each objective once you land. Source: pcgamingwiki.com, ign.com.
  • Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtracking
The campaign covers six distinct battles with open areas and a choice of landing spots, with no grind or backtracking between them. Source: eurogamer.net, ign.com.
  • Camera or movement fights the player
The field of view is Vert-, so widescreen screens crop the top and bottom of the image, and widening it needs an external mod. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
