How to get Metro: Last Light Redux running today
- If the game crashes on loading screens or at certain checkpoints, turn off Advanced PhysX under Game Options and restart.
- If it keeps crashing in the Undercity chapter, replay that chapter from the Chapters menu instead of continuing.
- See PCGamingWiki for mouse sensitivity and other fixes.
Synopsis
A first-person shooter with survival horror elements set in the tunnels beneath a ruined Moscow after nuclear war. Ranger Artyom moves between stations, factions and the poisoned surface, managing gas mask filters and handmade ammunition while choosing between stealth and open fights.
What people say
Critics found it grim, atmospheric and at its best when played slowly and quietly, though some disliked its boss fights and scripted on-rails stretches, and owners of the original saw little reason to buy again. Players often rate it above Metro 2033 for smoother combat and more varied places. Common complaints are inconsistent stealth, sparse checkpoints, a hidden system that decides the ending, and crashes on some setups.
Playability today
Playability runs from 1 to 5. It is the average of two parts. Each part starts at 1 and climbs to 5 as more of its checks pass. Read the method.

Design today: 4.5 / 5
- ✓Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardPlayers call the shooting smoother than Metro 2033 and controller support is full, though mouse sensitivity differs between the horizontal and vertical axes. Source: vaporlens.app, pcgamingwiki.com.
- ✓Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screensMost information sits on Artyom's watch and gear rather than a busy screen overlay, and no common readability complaints turned up, though evidence on this point is thin. Source: vaporlens.app, pcgamingwiki.com.
- ✗Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressThere are only automatic checkpoints, and players say they are spaced too far apart, especially during stealth sections. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressThe main path is linear and easy to follow, though the hidden moral system that unlocks the better ending is hard to discover without a guide. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✓Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingMost players find it varied and better paced than its predecessor, though some note a slow opening, repeated shootouts and scripted on-rails stretches. Source: vaporlens.app, opencritic.com.
- ✓Camera and movement never fight the playerThe first-person view behaves like a modern shooter and no camera complaints turned up. Source: vaporlens.app.
