How to get Saints Row IV: Re-Elected running today
- If the game stutters, block the shut-down My Steelport service by adding the lines 127.0.0.1 sr3.hydra.agoragames.com and 127.0.0.1 sr4.hydra.agoragames.com to the Windows hosts file (PCGamingWiki).
- If crashes or stutter persist, players report that switching to the legacy beta branch in the game's Steam properties fixes many issues (Vaporlens).
Synopsis
An open-world action game in which the leader of the Third Street Saints, now President of the United States, is trapped in a simulated version of the city of Steelport by an alien invader. Inside the simulation you gain superpowers such as super speed, giant leaps and elemental blasts, and use them alongside absurd weapons. Missions and side activities lean heavily into parody and slapstick humor.
What people say
Critics enjoyed its over-the-top humor, superpowers and sheer silliness, though some felt it reused its predecessor's city and drifted from the series' crime roots. Players still find it a reliable source of chaotic fun, especially in co-op. Common complaints are repetitive side activities, an empty-feeling world, superpowers that make cars pointless and a story that loses momentum. Many reviews report crashes, stutter and controller problems that they blame on the Re-Elected update.
Playability today
Playability runs from 1 to 5. It is the average of two parts. Each part starts at 1 and climbs to 5 as more of its checks pass. Read the method.

Design today: 3.5 / 5
- ✗Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardPlayers report that the Re-Elected version often fails to recognize controllers or drops input, and older Steam Input layouts no longer work, which makes gamepad play frustrating despite the praised superpower movement. Source: steamcommunity.com.
- ✓Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screens
- ✓Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressThe game autosaves often and lets you save from the pause menu, so the save design itself is fair, though the 2022 Re-Elected update corrupted some players' save files. Source: thegamer.com.
- ✓It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressSuperpowers arrive one at a time at key story moments and upgrades come from collectibles and side missions, so the game explains itself without a guide. Source: pcgamesn.com.
- ✗Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingCritics and players call the side activities repetitive minigames with recycled dialogue, and because unlocks are tied to them a 10 to 15 hour story stretches into a grind. Source: pcworld.com.
- ✓Camera and movement never fight the playerReviewers praise sprinting, leaping and gliding across the city so much that cars feel pointless, and the camera keeps up with the fast movement with few complaints. Source: pcworld.com, pcgamesn.com.
