How to get The Saboteur running today
- Apply the Origin to GOG patch to the Steam executable; it brings the GOG fixes for the startup crash on CPUs with four or more cores, the broken map overlay at high resolutions, and the 2 GB memory limit (PCGamingWiki).
- Install The Saboteur Fusion Fix for a corrected widescreen field of view, working map markers and cursor at high resolutions, and an optional borderless windowed mode (ThirteenAG).
- Keep the frame rate at 60 FPS or below, since higher frame rates stop bridges from being destroyed in missions (PCGamingWiki).
- If the game freezes at the exit prompt or on the stats screen above 1080p, set the resolution to 1920×1080 or lower (PCGamingWiki).
Synopsis
The Saboteur is an open world action game set in Nazi-occupied Paris, where Irish racing driver Sean Devlin joins the French Resistance for revenge. Players climb rooftops, steal cars, wear disguises and blow up German installations, and districts burst back into color as they are freed from the black and white grip of the occupation.

Reception
Critics in 2009 liked the striking art style, the setting and the climbing, but called the controls stiff, the cover system loose and the whole game short of polish, a result often blamed on Pandemic Studios closing as it shipped; the PC version holds a Metascore of 76. Players today rate it Very Positive on Steam and praise the atmosphere, music and freedom to cause mayhem. Recent reviewers warn that it is short, the stealth is thin and the game needs a few tweaks to run well on modern hardware.

Design today
3/5- Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardSean feels stiff and heavy to steer on foot, cars turn around their middle and take practice, and the automatic cover system sometimes ignores the player. Source: destructoid.com, gameinformer.com.
- Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screensThe map sits three clicks deep in the menus, the image is cropped vertically on widescreen displays, and map markers break at high resolutions without a fan fix. Source: gameinformer.com, pcgamingwiki.com, github.fusionfix.io.
- Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressThe game saves freely outside missions and drops Sean back at the latest checkpoint after a death inside one, though quitting mid mission means restarting it from the mission giver, and saving stays locked until the prologue is done. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com.
- It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressThe HUD makes threats easy to read with an alert icon when a Nazi is watching, a suspicion meter while disguised and a red alarm ring on the minimap, though saving stays locked until the prologue mission is finished, which confuses some new players. Source: destructoid.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingStory and side missions can be taken in any order, the optional sabotage targets are the main source of repetition, and recent players describe a short campaign. Source: destructoid.com, steamcommunity.com.
- Camera or movement fights the playerThe camera turns too slowly while aiming moves too fast, which makes combat feel unwieldy until the player adapts. Source: destructoid.com.
