  2. For a widescreen resolution, edit Resolution.cfg in the game folder as described on PCGamingWiki.

Synopsis

A squad tactics game set in a fictional Middle Eastern city, in which you command two four-man US Army fire teams. Instead of shooting directly, you order each team where to move, which arcs to cover and when to suppress or flank, using cover icons to judge positions. The game grew out of an Army training project and plays across ten chapters.

Reception

Critics praised it at release as a fresh blend of shooter and strategy, with tense flanking, a cinematic camera and competent enemy AI. Reviewers faulted a finicky cursor, unevenly spaced save points and limited mission variety. Steam players today are positive and still find it unlike other tactics games, and recent threads point to two epilogue missions that must be started by hand from the chapter menu.

  • Sold or given away today by an official source
  • Needs fan patches to run well on Windows 11
  • ?Not confirmed yetSingle-player works without an internet connection
No source covers the current version yet, so this check counts as open, not passed. Played it lately? Tell us
  • Some content no longer works (servers, DLC, unlocks)
Online co-op ran through GameSpy, and PCGamingWiki no longer lists online play (PCGamingWiki); a community guide restores it with extra setup (Steam Community).
  • No proper support for modern resolutions and widescreen
Only 4:3 and 5:4 resolutions can be chosen; widescreen needs a config edit (PCGamingWiki).
  • No full controller support and no remappable controls
Keys can be remapped, but there is no controller support on PC (PCGamingWiki).
  • ?Not confirmed yetSteam Deck Verified or Playable
No source covers the current version yet, so this check counts as open, not passed. Played it lately? Tell us
  • No intrusive DRM or required third-party launcher account
  • No pay-to-win or pushy microtransactions
  • No known game-breaking bugs in the current version
PCGamingWiki lists crackling audio as fixed with a workaround and no open crash or progress issue (PCGamingWiki).

Design today

3/5
  • Controls feel awkward on a modern controller or mouse and keyboard
Orders are placed with a context-sensitive cursor that reviewers found stiff, finicky and hard to place past obstacles, so squads sometimes take cover on the wrong side of a corner. The PC version has no controller support, although one reviewer found the Xbox pad more precise. Source: worthplaying.com, gamingnexus.com, pcgamingwiki.com.
  • Menus, text or interface are hard to read on today's screens
Only 4:3 and 5:4 resolutions up to 1280×1024 are offered; widescreen requires editing a config file and stretches the image without a separate FOV fix. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
  • Saving is harsh: few saves or checkpoints, progress gets lost
Progress saves only at fixed sitrep checkpoints inside each mission, which a reviewer found unevenly spaced, and the hardest difficulty removes them entirely. Source: gamingnexus.com, steamcommunity.com.
  • It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progress
A set of training missions covers movement, cover, fire team orders and checkpoints before the campaign, and players in recent threads still credit it as a good tutorial system. Reviewers note the game rewards taking time to learn it. Source: steamcommunity.com, steamcommunity.com, worthplaying.com.
  • Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtracking
Missions are compact chapter objectives without grinding or backtracking, though a reviewer wanted more variety and found some stretches between save points tiring. Source: gamingnexus.com.
  • Camera and movement never fight the player
The camera floats just above the active team and switches between squads instantly, giving a clear view of the street and cover points. Source: gamingnexus.com, worthplaying.com.
