How to get Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen running today
- If the game micro-stutters at 60 fps, cap it at 60 with RivaTuner Statistics Server or the NVIDIA Control Panel, or use the in-game 30 fps cap (PCGamingWiki: Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen).
- If the frame rate drops after the prologue, open Config.ini and set Jobthread under [CPU] to your number of CPU cores.
- If stutter persists on a fast PC, place DXVK's d3d9.dll next to DDDA.exe.
- If the sound is very quiet, enable surround sound or Loudness Equalization in Windows sound settings.
Synopsis
An open-world fantasy action role-playing game from Capcom in which a dragon steals the hero's heart and the hero, now one of the Arisen, sets out to hunt it down. The player picks a class and travels with up to three AI companions called pawns, one of whom is shaped and trained over the whole game, and fights griffins, cyclopes and chimeras by climbing onto them and striking weak spots.
What people say
Critics in 2012 praised the combat, the climbing on giant monsters, the pawn system and the freedom of the open world, but found the story flat, the presentation unpolished and the lack of real fast travel a drag. The 2016 PC version was noted for running far more smoothly than the console originals. Players today still single out the pawns and the combat as unique, while frequently complaining about a clichéd story, poorly explained systems that send people to wikis, clumsy inventory menus, limited fast travel and an unreliable autosave.
Playability today
Playability runs from 1 to 5. It is the average of two parts. Each part starts at 1 and climbs to 5 as more of its checks pass. Read the method.

- ✓Controls feel natural on a modern controller or mouse and keyboardCritics praise the combat and monster climbing, and the PC version has full controller support, though on mouse and keyboard some menus cannot be scrolled or clicked. Source: en.wikipedia.org, pcgamingwiki.com.
- ✗Menus, text and interface are clear on today's screensPoor inventory and menu design is a common complaint, and the menus only partly support the mouse. Source: vaporlens.app, pcgamingwiki.com.
- ✗Saving is fair: free saves or frequent checkpoints, little lost progressPlayers call the autosave unreliable and advise saving by hand and backing up, since crashes can cost or corrupt progress. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✗It teaches itself: no guide needed to make progressPawn behavior, leveling and many quests are poorly explained, and players commonly turn to wikis; some quests can also be missed for good. Source: vaporlens.app.
- ✗Pacing holds up: little grind, filler or forced backtrackingFast travel depends on scarce items until late in the game, so much time goes into walking the same roads, a complaint critics raised in 2012 too. Source: vaporlens.app, en.wikipedia.org.
- ✓Camera and movement never fight the playerNo widespread camera complaints turned up in the sources, and the field of view can be widened a little in the options; evidence is thin. Source: pcgamingwiki.com.
