Synopsis
A turn-based, party-based role-playing game set in a post-nuclear American Southwest. You lead a squad of Desert Rangers investigating a fellow Ranger's murder, roaming Arizona and Los Angeles, making choices that shape whole towns, and fighting tactical battles with cover and skills.
What people say
Critics welcomed it as a faithful return of the old-school computer RPG, praising the branching quests, reactive writing, skill system and tactical combat. The common criticism was pacing: it takes a while to get interesting, and reviewers of the Director's Cut said the original's slow stretches remained, along with bugs and a dense interface. Players today generally rate it as a solid, demanding game and a good lead-in to Wasteland 3, though some find its length and wordiness wearing.
